In this class, clear articulation and minimizing filler words play pivotal roles in effective communication. However, for some individuals, including myself, mastering these skills proves to be challenging. This paper delves into my personal experience grappling with pronunciation difficulties and overuse of filler words like "ums" and "uhs" in speech class. 

As we have seen this year pronouncing words accurately can be hard for me when I am talking too fast, particularly when encountering unfamiliar or harder vocabulary. I have often felt apprehensive and embarrassed when struggling to articulate words correctly. To address this issue, I have worked through various techniques, including mimicking the pronunciation of others and seeking guidance from teachers and peers. Despite encountering challenges along the way, consistent practice has bolstered my confidence, with occasional setbacks.

The frequent use of filler words such as "um" and "uh" can detract from the coherence and effectiveness of one's speech. In speech class, the prevalence of filler words has been a source of frustration and self-consciousness, undermining the clarity of my message. To combat this tendency, I have to heighten my awareness of filler word usage, employing strategies such as deep breathing and substituting pauses for filler words. Engaging in impromptu speaking exercises has honed my ability to think quickly and articulate ideas succinctly, resulting in a reduction in filler word usage over time.

Confronting my speech-related challenges has been a daunting yet enlightening process. Through introspection and self-critique, I have gained valuable insights into areas requiring improvement and milestones achieved. Embracing honesty and resilience in the face of adversity has been instrumental in my journey of self-improvement. Rather than dwelling on mistakes, I have adopted a growth-oriented mindset, viewing setbacks as opportunities for growth and refinement. This self-coaching approach has empowered me to navigate speech challenges with confidence and determination, fostering continuous personal development.

In conclusion, my participation in speech class has been characterized by a journey of self-discovery and growth. Overcoming pronunciation hurdles and minimizing filler word usage has been a formidable task, yet it has afforded me invaluable lessons in resilience and self-awareness.
